Volunteer Opportunities

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Erin Wisness @ erin@southsidefamilyschool.org and she will send you the current Volunteer Application.  Here are some possible ways to volunteer at Southside:

Opportunities:

Classroom Assistant/Tutor, September - May
Work in the classroom in a variety of ways including working with small groups on classroom assignments and assisting teachers with hands-on activities.  Provide one-to-one or small-group tutoring in a basic skill area (spelling, reading, listening, math, science) during regular classroom hours.  Assist teachers with clerical tasks, such as copying learning packets.  Help supervise classroom field trips during school hours.  Some tutoring opportunities may be available outside of school hours for individualized help.  Minimum age for volunteers is 18.

Clerical Assistant
Assist with administrative tasks in the school office.  Tasks vary but may include assisting with mailings, data entry, or phone calls.  Schedule is flexible throughout the year.

Event Assistant
Assist  teachers and staff with a variety of events at Southside, including the school play, Holiday Pops program, book fairs, or  other special events.  Hours vary and are flexible throughout the year.  Volunteers need a flexible schedule and their own transportation.

Curriculum/Special Projects Assistant
Assist in planning a special event such as the spring play or the civil rights trip, or help teachers conduct research for curriculum or classroom planning.  Volunteer opportunities are limited and determined by current teacher/classroom needs, but we are open to ideas and proposals for special projects throughout the year.

Guest Speaker/Teacher
Share your skills and knowledge with Southside students as a guest teacher or speaker.  We welcome people with diverse interests and skill sets to participate in the classroom as part of our “Community As Classroom” curriculum.  Volunteer opportunities are limited and determined by current teacher/classroom needs.  Minimum age for volunteers is 18.

Please note:  Volunteers are required to complete a criminal background check prior beginning work at Southside Family Charter School.  You may also be required to complete a DMV check based on your assignment.

Please contact Erin Wisness, Program Associate, to set up an initial volunteer interview.  Thank you for your interest in Southside Family Charter School.
