Volunteer Opportunities

If you are interested in volunteering at SFCS, please fill out our Volunteer Application and mail or fax it to us.


Opportunities:

Assistant Teacher
Work in the classroom in a variety of ways including working with small groups on classroom assignments and assisting teachers with hands-on activities.

Camping Assistant
Assist teachers in preparing for and supervising a two or three day campout for children ages 5-14. Two or three days and nights twice per year . One trip in September and one trip in June. Minimum age for volunteers is 18. Minimum age with supervision is 16. Maximum group size is 15.

Clerical Assistant
Assist teachers by copying learning packets, and performing other clerical duties.

Computer Assistant
Use your computer skills to educate others! Help install and train staff on new software. Member of Community Solutions Fund.

Drama Assistant
Assist teachers who direct a musical play given by children in grades five to eight Help children learn scripts, work on props, lighting and publicity. From three to eight hours per week from March to early May. Orientation provided. Volunteers need a flexible schedule and transportation. Experience in drama and working with children is a plus. Minimum age for volunteers is 16. Maximum group size is 5.

Field Trip Assistant
Join students and staff on field trips such as the State Capitol, the zoo and local museums.

Special Projects Assistant
Assist in planning a special event such as the spring play or the civil rights trip.

Teacher Aide
Assist teachers in classrooms, help supervise lunches. Hours flexible between 8:00 AM and 1:45 PM, September through May. Training provided. Minimum age for volunteers is 16. Maximum group size is 6.

Tutor
Work with an individual student on reading, listening and/or helping with homework assignments.

Tutor/Read/Math/Spell
Provide one-to-one tutoring in a basic skill area (spelling, math or reading), once or twice a week during regular class-room hours (8:30 AM - 11:45 AM), September through May. Some tutoring opportunities are also available during the after school program from 1:45-3:00 PM on Tuesday and Thursday. Training provided. Minimum age for volunteers is 16. Maximum group size is 6.

Youth Opportunities
Help children with homework, assist the office staff, supervise on field trips and lend a helping hand when needed.
