Family Charter School Hosts Civil Rights Leader

Southside Family Charter School will host dinner and a conversation
with Civil Rights leader, Hollis Watkins on Thursday, January 11,
2007 at 5:30 at Southside Family Charter School, 2123 Clinton
Avenue South in Minneapolis. Mr. Watkins will discuss his
experiences during the Civil Rights Movement, thoughts about the
power of young people to create change and his work to build a more
equitable, sustainable world.

for Academic Excellence

Susan Oppenheim, Southside Family Charter School teacher, is one of
two recipients of the WEM Foundation’s statewide Teacher
Achievement Award.
Oppenheim is recognized as an educator who supports and inspires
students to achieve in spite of barriers to learning.

Nightmare on Sesame Street
. Each year, the school presents an original musical that has
become an eagerly anticipated community tradition for over 26
years.

Family School Unveils Community Mural

—A celebration of the completion of Southside Family School
(SFS) Community Mural Project will take place on Tuesday, July 20
at 7:00 pm at the Hennepin History Museum, 2303 Third Avenue South,
Minneapolis. The mural was created by third through seventh grade
SFS students who want to share their vision for a just,
sustainable, peaceful world.
